Christien Meindertsma

While artist Christien Meindertsma is most widely known for her large-scale knitting projects, she also did a fascinating book project called PIG 05049 in which she “spent three years researching all the products made from a single pig.” Some of the unexpected results: Ammunition, medicine, photo paper, heart valves, brakes, chewing gum, porcelain, cosmetics, cigarettes, conditioner and even bio diesel.

Her website states: “Meindertsma makes the subject more approachable by reducing everything to the scale of one animal. After it’s death, Pig number 05049 was shipped in parts throughout the world. Some products remain close to their original form and function while others diverge dramatically. In an almost surgical way a pig is dissected in the pages of the book – resulting in a startling photo book where all the products are shown at their true scale (1:1).”

Wallnut Studio Textiles

I’ve been watching a lot of Project Runway Season 2 lately and its been making me think a lot about fabric and patterns, wishing I had time to make clothing again. I did some searching for fabric designers and while there were so many amazing ones, Wallnut Studio was one of my favorites that I stumbled upon. Check out a few of their designs below and see the rest at wallnutstudio.com.

Also see printpattern.blogspot.com for more great patterns and textile designers.

Clean Slate

Hello friends! This blog was originally our full website but that has moved to www.fillintheblankgallery.com.

We’re starting from scratch to turn this into a blog about all things art related. Enjoy!

About Us

Fill in the Blank Gallery was formed out of the desire to create a space where art can be presented, discussed, created, performed, written, shared, and taught on an accessible level. Our goal is to foster creativity in our community, which is so full of talent but perhaps lacking in creative outlets. Part artist collective, part gallery, we feature a wide range of artistic works each month including fine art, craft, film, and music.
